How does the laser work?  The invisible light emitted from the laser passes harmlessly through the skin and is absorbed by the hair follicle. This destroys the hair follicle and reduces its ability to grow new hair.  Lasers used in this procedure are designed to act on hair follicles only, leaving surrounding tissues untouched.

Does it hurt?  The pulses produced by the laser creates a slight stinging sensation similar to the snap of a rubber band against the skin.  To greatly reduce the sensation, we use a cooling tip, which other hair removal establishments may lack.  After the procedure, your treated area may be slightly pink or swollen for a few minutes.

Am I a candidate?  The best candidates have light skin and dark hair.  The laser does not work on peach fuzz, blonde hairs or very dark skins types.  You CAN have the treatment the same day as your consultation if you meet 4 requirements:

1)      You have not tanned that area in the past 2 weeks. *The laser CAN NOT treat very dark skin types (example would be Oprah’s skin type)

2)      You have NOT plucked, waxed, or tweezed on the area in the past 2 weeks….Shaving IS permitted

3)      The hair to be treated is NOT blonde, gray or peach fuzz

4)      You must shave the treated area within 24 hours of the treatment, unless it is facial hair (If you are still concerned about candidacy, you can leave a small patch unshaved)

How many treatments are necessary?  Achieving the maximum reduction in hair usually requires four to six treatment sessions.  Each follow-up session should be done between six weeks and two months after the previous treatment. 

What should I expect after each session?  As hair growth occurs in cycles, some hair will return thinner and finer, while others are completely destroyed. After each session, you should experience several weeks, which shaving will not be necessary, due to laser hair reduction.

How long does the procedure take?  It depends on the area treated.  Small areas like lip, chin or sideburns can take five to ten minutes.  Bikini and underarms may take 10 to 15 minutes.  The largest areas are backs and legs, which can take 30 to 60 minutes.

What type of Laser do we use?  We use Diode lasers which are well known as the “Gold Standard” in laser hair removal.  We use the Soprano (Alma Laser), LightSheer ( Lumenis)  & two Iridex brands, which are safe for almost all skin types.  It is effective & efficient at hair removal and uses contact cooling to the skin to provide a much cooler temperature than most lasers to make the treatment more comfortable.
