WHAT IS MiraDry?
Miradry is an FDA cleared non invasive treatment with minimal downtime that uses microwave energy to eliminate sweat and odor glands in the underarm area to effectively treat axillary hyperhidrosis. It creates targeted heat in the area where the glands reside and safely eliminates them by removing 82% of the sweat glands after one session. The treatment is complete in about 1 hour (including 10 minutes of local tumescent anesthesia) and you will see results immediately. Most patients need 1 treatment. Less than 15% may choose to do a second treatment for full elimination.
We use local tumescent anesthesia prior to the treatment to make the treatment virtually pain free. This takes ~10 minutes and the area is completely numb.
Most patient experience minimal downtime and return to normal activity right after treatment. You will just occasionally ice the area for the first 24 hours and can resume exercise within several days.
The MiraDry treatment has a strong safety record. You may experience some localized soreness or swelling which typically clears within a few weeks. Some patients have short term altered sensation in the skin of their underarms or upper arms, which gradually disappears. This treatment is safe for all skin types.
After the MiraDry treatment, your underarm sweat and odor glands will be eliminated. While your body does need sweat glands to cool itself, the average individual has 2-4 million sweat glands - only about 2% are found in your underarms.
